GUTTERS
A narrative short film based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.
Justice (J), an up-and-coming comic writer/artist, and Kieran, an ex-con, struggle to survive. When the two are given their final notice of eviction, Kieran steps back into a life of crime to try and save them, accidentally killing J during a deal gone wrong.
PROJECT STATEMENT
I have always been fascinated by comic books, which act as the modern myths of our society. These heroic tales captivate us with death defying acts of bravery and kindness. As a child, these comics were the first medium that truly shaped my interest in storytelling. With GUTTERS, I wanted to combine these beloved modern myths with the ancient stories they come from, reframing the tragic tale of Orpheus and Eurydice within the comic medium. This film’s style is meant to emulate the feeling of reading a comic, but brought to life on screen, encapsulating the themes of love and loss that influence much of my creative work.
Artist Bio
Drew Reynolds is a filmmaker and playwright currently studying Digital Film/Video Production and Sociology at the University of Connecticut. Their work includes narrative short films, as well as both short and long form stage plays. They have also worked on Tabletop Roleplaying Game (TTRPG) Actual Play content for the stage and screen.
Their narrative projects explore love, loss, and queerness, often leaning towards the supernatural or fantastical. Whether on the stage or screen, they hope to create work that challenges our preconceptions about ourselves and the world around us.
PRE-PRODUCTION
A large portion of my pre-production work has gone into rewriting and refining my script, incorporating feedback from my project advisor. The script is finalized at this point and ready for shooting.

I have also begun casting and crew assembly, and currently have Musawir Abrar signed as Director of Photography.

The process of location scouting is also underway, and I have reached out to some local businesses for one of the film's primary locations.

The following characters have been cast: Justice (J), Kieran, Mr. & Mrs/ Morton, and Maximus. Casting is currently underway for the other character, and the correct actors will be put in place below once they have been cast. The following section provides character descriptions for the primary characters in the film.
